Cruise Planning at this Port

If you have to travel into Long Beach from a different part of Californiaor any of the nearby states, you could certainly save yourself some money bydriving in and parking instead of flying in to Long Beach or LA. Long Beach, California is known by some for its edgy punk and skate culture (made famous by the band Sublime in the '90s), but as a growing cruise port, it's exceedingly family friendly. Located just over 20 miles from LAX, Long Beach has a highly diverse yet welcoming small-town feel that flies under the radar of most tourists and Angelenos.

Hotel Maya by Doubletree is one of the more popular hotel options for thecruise terminal and for those visiting the Queen Mary. It’s uniquely designedbuilding and tropical landscaping are ideal for beginning your vacation beforeyou even set foot on the cruise ship. If you have the time, the hotel has beachaccess and other amenities like kayak rentals. Because the parking garage is part of the cruise terminal, it’s under the same security umbrella as everything else. In addition to the overall terminal security, the sheer volume of activity and the near-constant presence of people make it difficult to go around breaking into cars there.

Carnival Cruise Line is offering travellers an enticing array of new deployment options from the picturesque shores of Long Beach, California. Future sailings are now officially open for sale, with exciting itineraries aboard Carnival Panorama, Carnival Radiance, and the soon-to-debut Carnival Firenze. It’s not all action, though, because relaxation options like Cloud 9 Spa™ and Serenity Adult-Only Retreat™ are on the menu. Guests may hand off checked bags to porters within the passenger drop-off zone or alongside the parking garage. The Long Beach Cruise Terminal does not provide wheelchairs for passenger use.

However, it can still be helpful to know what to expect in regard to parking, hotels, and the surrounding area. Just down the road (your probably passed it) from the cruise terminal is the Queen Mary. History and military enthusiasts alike will enjoy visiting this museum just a few miles away from the port in San Pedro.

The ship’s unique architectural design beautifully mirrors its namesake, offering travellers a slice of Italy in the heart of the Pacific. Carnival also offers cruise line transfer shuttles from Long Beach Airport for passengers arriving by air on the same day of cruise departure. Travelers must pre-book transportation for one-way or round-trip services. Passengers on cruises departing from Long Beach Cruise Terminal predominantly fly into LAX, though Long Beach Airport (LGB) and John Wayne Airport (SNA) are also viable options. Cruise lines offer shuttle service from LAX and LGB, while passengers arriving at SNA will need to take a taxi or rent a car. Give them a call to ask about booking a cruise package to get a deal on parking.

A Carnival cruise features day and nighttime entertainment like stage shows, musical performances, deck parties, casinos and more. Guests enjoy this unique experience against the backdrop of some of the world’s most beautiful seaports. If your group likes to sail a little closer to the waves — or just in a calm location at the aft of the ship — choose a Family Harbor Cove Balcony stateroom.

Day 4: Fun Day at Sea

You’re paying for the parking space, but you’re also paying for extra services like that. We designed Carnival Panorama balcony staterooms for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, and this stateroom features a balcony that's even wider than our standard balcony. Enjoy the extra outdoor space, along with all the standard Carnival stateroom amenities. That said, a shortage of parking spaces doesn’t appear to be a commonproblem. The parking structure is huge, after all, and most of the passengerson cruises will have flown in from other parts of the country, and won’t have acar to park.

In fact, a quick google search will reveal nocomplaints at all about the security there. There is no difference in price based on what level you park in or if you need a handicap spot. That’s a difficult comparison since those costs vary depending on how far from the terminal you live and the time of day that you’re using the service. For most people, that means they’ll be flying into LAX or the Long Beach Airport and taking a shuttle out to the cruise terminal. Others, though, especially people who live in the area, will be driving themselves.

Cruises that depart from Long Beach travel to destinations all over the world, including the Mexican Riviera, Alaska, and Hawaii. There is no off-site parking readily available, unless you arrive a day or so before your trip and stay at a hotel that provides parking for cruise passengers. Any oversized vehicles will be charged per space ($17) that their vehicle takes up. Handicap parking is also available, provided you have a valid permit. Again, if you’re travelling alone, this isn’t that bad, as you will only be paying about $47-$60 roundtrip. You’d be looking at paying roughly $188-$240 round trip, just for shuttle service.

More than 300 cruises a year sail from the Long Beach cruise port, mostly reaching destinations in the Mexico Riviera like Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo. If you’re driving in from the north, you’ll most likely be coming in onInterstate 405. If that’s the case, you’ll stay on I-405 until you hit I-710;you’ll want to turn south on I-710 and then take Exit 1A onto South HarborScenic Drive, which will take you right to the parking structure. The terminal is located at the end of Harbor Scenic Drive, on the easternside of the Port.

From there, continue on to Queen’s Highway, and then on to Windsor Way. From Windsor Way you can access the parking structure or continue on to loop around the parking structure to the drop off zone at the terminal. As with any form of long-distance travel, figuring out what to do with your car while you’re on a cruise can be one of the most challenging and frustrating aspects of planning your trip. Some people choose to have someone drive them to the terminal and pick them up, and some will choose to use services like Uber and Lyft. The Firenze will offer four-day cruises, which visit Catalina Island and Ensenada as well as five-day Mexican Riviera treks calling in Cabo and Ensenada beginning in spring of 2025 through the fall. The Firenze will join the company’s fleet in May 2024 as its second ship showcasing the Carnival Fun Italian Style experiences, including Italian-themed restaurants, bars and entertainment.

The lack of reservations makes some people nervous, but there are noreports of anyone having an issue finding available parking. The only potentialproblem would be if you come in an RV, which may be too tall to fit inside thegarage. There are several hotels at the terminal providing convenient lodging forcruise passengers. If you’re driving in from the south, you’ll most likely be on Interstate 5.It’ll be a little faster if you take exit 85A to get on CA-73 North and takethat highway all the way in to town. You’ll then take exit 18A to get on 405North, followed by exit 32B to get on 710 South, and then exit 1A on to HarborScenic Drive. If you’re thinking of cruising, there’s a very good chance you’re considering a Carnival cruise.
